Website development chugging along
One of the main reasons for wanting to re-vamp my website was the fact that it was all messed up in Firefox. And considering that i am a big Firefox fan (and an equal IE hater), i couldnt stand the fact that my website wouldnt show up in Firefox.
So all (Spring) semester long, i was looking forward to be able to find time off my seemingly hectic schedule to do a complete overhaul of the site. Well that time had finally come and i expected the job to be done within a week. This included my goals of
having a weblog etc. Well it has been a week and like all badly planned software projects, the website isnt finished yet. The hardest part is the porting of the old website stuff (analogous to dealing with legacy code). Looking back at the stuff i had put together for my earlier website, makes me almost cry.
Terrible design is the only words i can find to describe it. Well atleast all's not lost and the effort and time i'm putting in might be worth it. Hopefully i have learnt from the mistakes and am wiser for it.
A golden rule of website development i believe in is "Building a Website is only half the story, Maintaining it is the other (harder, messier, thankless) half". If your website design doesnt incorporate maintainence, then your pretty much screwed and will end up in a situation of despair like me.
