New Website is up and running
Today i changed the domain name server to point to my new webhosting company's name server (nexcess.net). The old site is still accessible (for posterity) at http://www.nikhilzkingdom.com/oldsite. (Some links on the old site may be broken and i take no responsibilty towards fixing it!!!). As expected the new site took a while, before whois reflected the change. The past couple of days, the new web hosting company was nice enough to give me a temporary URL (nikhilzk.nexcess.net) to access my site and ensure everything was working without a glitch.
My domain registration is still with my previous hosting company (webcomindia.net). I found their domain registration competative and to my joy, their servie this time around was prompt and effecient. After updating the name server, for some time, i was still able to access the old site. But soon enough, when i got back to lunch, i was able to reach the newly hosted site. Overall migration to the new site has been smooth (Expect for one minor glitch)
minor glitch with outgoing mail server
One minor glitch that i have to put up with that i am unable to access my outgoing server (SMTP) server from within my university network.
It is well known that a lot of ISPs lately block the use of outgoing email servers other than their own. You should be able to remedy this problem by setting your outgoing mail server to your ISPs. For example, if you have adelphia internet, your outgoing server would be smtp.adelphia.net. SMTP server setting vary with ISP. This feature is typically for security reasons.
Previously (with my earlier webhosting company) i had other authentication issues with SMTP servers from within my univ network. They probably disallow use of other email outgoing servers. Thankfully my earlier hosting company supported SSL and certificates and my univ networks permits secured connections as well. This worked to my advantage in that i was able to access my SMTP server from any network. I only wish my new hosting company provides this facility also. It would alleviate the need to go through university or similar SMTP servers.
