University Circle - Cleveland
Ever since i came to cleveland, there has always been a little intrigue about the city. It is a well known fact that cleveland is one of the older cities in US with more to offor in terms of history. Sadly it must also be noted that cleveland is dying a slow death with people moving away. I've often heard people compare the cleveland of early 90s to New York. Cleveland is now a pale shadow of that now. Despite all that i had always wanted to see what cleveland had to offor from a historical perspective. A long winter and bad weather, along with the absence of a means of transportation prevented me from exploring cleveland and doing some sightseeing. Well now that the sun is at its brightest and armed with a new set of wheels, sky is the limit in terms of exploration. Belive me, a car in america is a god send, because you litrealy feel crippled without it. For now, i love my car. Winter will be a whole different story though.
University centre is one of the popular tourist attractions and through the months of summer, on wednesdays they have live music concerts and museums stay open till 9PM. They call it WOW - Wade Oval Wednesdays. So yesterday evening i took the opportunity to visit some of these museums and check out the music also. Music concerts are often held outdoors in Wade Park Oval. But with earlier thunderstorms dark clouds hovering about menacingly, the concert was moved indoors to the 'Cleveland Museum of Natural History'. The artist performing was 'Anne E Dechant' and her Band. To be honest, i hadnt ever heard of her as an artist. But i was pleasently suprised on two counts. First was that her music was really really good. Soulful, upbeat and foot tapping. Second, her website is pretty good and has a fair number of visitors and is an interesting insight into a talented artiste.
I stayed for quite a bit at the concert. As long as my tummy held out. During the break, i took a look at the exhibits in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Some of them were real interesting while others were just too mundane, borning and artificial. The problem is that i was comparing the exhibits to the ones i see in india. In that sense there is no comparison at all. Indian history is way way richer. After i left the concert i went to the 'Western Reserve Historical Society'. Except for the 'Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum', i didnt find anything noteworthy. I was too hungry to stay on for the 'Tour of Hay Houses'. I have uploaded some 'not very impressive' photos in the albums section. Check them out.
