Da Vinci Code - The Movie

Last evening i watched the much awaited movieThe Da Vinci Code. The author of the book Dan Brown is an excellent storyteller, as judged by the millions of people who have read and enjoyed the book - me included. So I was keenly anticipating the release of this movie, because I enjoyed the book so much. I had earlier posted my review on the book and couldnt wait a day more than i had to for the movie to hit the theatres. I can't say I was blown away by movie - as is often the case, the book was far superior.

As far as the good points, Director Ron Howard has chosen some great locations, and produced a well photographed film, with a thought-provoking, well-paced storyline which sticks pretty faithfully to the book. Also the presentation of some controversial dialogue moments coupled with special effects, will make you go wow. The rol of menacing single minded Silas was potrayed to utter perfection by Paul Bettany. Ian McKellan also did wonderfully as Sir Leigh Teabing and delivered some great one liners. Jean Reno was made for the role of police inspector Bezu Fache.

Being familiar with the plot and knowing how the story unfolds, red herrings, character motivations, twists and all, it may leave those who've read the novel, a page-turner in every sense of the word, a bit wanting. Also there is absolutely no chemistry between the 2 leading characters Tom Hanks (Robert Langdon) and Audrey Tautou (Sophie Neveu) and this to me was a big let down for me.

Even though I liked the movie, I must confess, I too expected more. I can't precisely point out what was missing and what I was expecting, but some it has some details that weren't there, some small imprecisions, some little things could have been better.
